It's December 23rd, I am getting ready for bed, and I get a phone call...Lindsay is in the hospital! Justin comes home from work and finds Lindsay with horrible back pain. She has been suffering since about 11 a.m. and can't get relief. They are trying to decide whether or not to go to the hospital and the phone rings. It is Dr. Thrash (dermatologist) wishing them a Merry Christmas. She suggests they go to the emergency room. That good advice was all Justin needed.
St. David's Hospital admits her and begins testing. She has a suspicious lump at the top of her uterus and the pain in her lower back continues. After an ultrasound and an MRI, the doctors report that there are 2 masses, one next to her kidney and the one in her abdomen. She isn't in labor yet, but decisions have to be made.
That is when I got the call. Well, of course, I jump up to get ready to pack and get on the road. They convince me to try to sleep a few hours before heading up to Round Rock. Well, needless to say, I didn't get much sleep and at about 3 a.m., I got up, showered, and got moving. I got to the hospital about 8. We had a visit from the OB on call and she is trying to contact the oncologist to get his opinion on how to proceed.
By noon, Lindsay was moved into a labor and delivery room and induced. She suffered all day with the stabbing back pains, but got relief with a pain pump. By 5 p.m., I decided to give the expecting parents some privacy, and went to their house for the night.
It is now after 4 a.m. Christmas morning. I can't sleep anymore and will be getting ready to go back up to the hospital by 6 a.m. At that time, the doctors will begin a pitosin drip and break the membrane and hopefully labor will begin!
A Christmas miracle in Round Rock!!
